Gust Burns, Choir Director and Eurythmy Piano Accompanist

Gust Burns, a native of Tacoma, has lived in Seattle since 2001. Although he holds a degree in Philosophy from Fairhaven College at Western Washington University, his life has been dedicated to music almost from the start. Gust began studying the piano in the 4th Grade, and has continued to develop a unique voice on the instrument. Since 2001, he has performed frequently in various groups and as a soloist, specializing in improvised and experimental music, and has been recognized with awards and grants from Earshot Jazz, Seattle Weekly, the Mayor’s Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, and 4Culture.

Mr. Burns began his teaching career in high school, offering piano lessons to neighborhood children. Since 2001, he has maintained a private piano studio, as well as offering classes for high school and primary band, and workshops on improvised music. He became the accompanist for Eurythmy classes at Bright Water School in 2006, where he now also teaches choir In this music teaching and mentoring, he strives to help each one of his students develop an appreciation and personal engagement with music and sound.
