Admissions Procedure
Admissions Procedure
To begin the admissions process, complete and submit an application and a $60 application fee. The Waldorf curriculum is designed to support the developmental stages of the growing child. Acceptance will be based on the teachers' assessment of developmental readiness as well as the parents' willingness to work with the principles of Waldorf education.
Upon acceptance and registration, a one-time nonrefundable $500 enrollment fee is due. A tuition prepayment of $1,000 for grades students and $750 for Kindergarten or Preschool students is also due upon registration; this payment counts toward total tuition due for the year.

Complete and submit an application and a $60 application fee. Preschool and Kindergarten parents of applicants will be scheduled for an interview with the class teacher in March. Acceptance to Bright Water Preschool or Kindergarten is based on age and factors such as the child's physical and social readiness and the parents' willingness to work with the principles of Waldorf education.
Application deadline for Preschool and Kindergarten 2010-11 is January 15, 2010.
Applications for the Grade School are accepted year round if space is available.
Applicants for Grade One (Download First Grade Application, pdf)
First Grade applicants must have turned 6 years old by May 31st during the year proceeding first grade entry. After submitting an application and $60 application fee, parents of First Grade applicants will be scheduled for an interview with two faculty members. A readiness assesment of the child will be scheduled following the parent interview. If applying for admittance during the school year, a class visit of 1-2 days will be scheduled.
Acceptance is based on age, the teacher's assessment of developmental readiness, and the parents' willingness to work with the principles of Waldorf education.
The Admissions Coordinator will inform the parent(s) of enrollment status by phone or letter following the interviews and assessment.
Applicants for Grades 2-8 (Download Grades 2-8 Application, pdf)
Upon receipt of the completed application, $60 application fee, and student records and transcripts, an interview will be scheduled between the applicant's parents and the class teacher. The class teacher will then schedule a class visit of two to three days. Evaluation of skill levels and an assessment of the student's physical, emotional and social development will take place at this time.
The Admissions Coordinator will inform the parent(s) of enrollment status by phone or letter following the child's class visit.
Requirements for Home-schooled Students
Bright Water School recognizes that home-schooled applicants may have different records than students applying from other schools. For a smooth application process, we suggest the following alternatives to school records or transcripts:
- A detailed outline of your student's home school curriculum including specific subject areas, resources used, and the amount of time spent on each discipline.
- Include copies of the student's most recent academic assessments or measures of academic progress.
- Students must also submit a recently completed project along with the directions and guidelines used for the assignment. The project can be a research project, lesson book, or report that is representational of the student's academic potential.
- A teacher questionnaire (included in the above application forms) filled out by a tutor, teacher, or program leader (someone other than the parent-teacher) who has recently interacted with the student.
If at any point you have questions about these guidelines, please contact our Admissions Coordinator at (206) 624-6176 or admissions@brightwaterschool.org.
